In January 2011 the Classic and Sports Car Club , relativley new club formed only in 2001 announced a Special Saloons revival meeting at Mallory Park in August. This with a view to running a series in 2012
The response was fantastic with over 40 potentially eligiable owners soon declaring an interest. Some of the most famous `Super Saloons `from the `70s would attend , such as the ex-Gerry Marshall `Baby Bertha` Vauxhall Firenza , the Tony Hazelwood Daf V8 and the ex-Mick Hill VW Beetle V8. From the Thundersaloon era were former Championship winning cars in the form of the Vauxhall Carlton and the `stars n stripes`Opel Manta. Besides many more Special Saloons were Modsport / GT cars and even the famous flame-livered Vette of Bernie Chodosh.
Many attended a special Test session / P.R. day on June 29th at Mallory ahead of the main gathering on August Bank Holiday. The August meet was supported by Vauxhall and provided a mouth-watering spectacle of varied modified machinery from the 70`s . 80`s and 90s. Some of the cars present were still very much still active in various series` but for others it was their first real outing for many a year.
The interest was so great and positive that a new championship was set up for the 2012 season by the CSCC.
