The CSCC Special Saloons + Modsports series
Brands Hatch 2016 preview
After an exciting Silverstone opener the series moves to Brands Hatch for what could prove to be the closest 2 races the series has seen yet. The nature of the Kent track tends to negate the class A cars` outright speed and this can be a leveller enabling the nimble Modsport cars to challenge for outright victory. A mouthwatering 24 cars are entered and most famous of them is the ex-Gerry Marshall Baby Bertha Vauxhall Firenza . This is a must see race for those able to travel to Brands on sunday for another great value for money motorsport experience.
Flashback to Silverstone - This might look like a pace lap but I can assure that these 4 were full on racing when this photo was taken ! Wayne Crabtree ( Escort ) , Ricky Morris ( Peugeot ) , eventual winner Steven Moss ( Anglia ) and class C hard charger Chris Southcott ( Midget ) duelled in the opening laps under a second apart. Expect a similar battle with even more cars this sunday.

It`s an iconic car built for an iconic driver. The unique Vauxhall Firenza known as`Baby Bertha`arrived in 1975 built specially for Gerry Marshall to win the 1975 and 1976 Super Saloon championships.
Now owned and raced hard by Joe Ward it`s still a crowd pleaser and an intimidating on track opponent for the other cars.
The man who put the Anglia into East Anglia ! Steven Moss has won the last 3 series races and probably starts as pre-race favourite in the form he`s in. The car is running great and Moss has shown he can handle intense pressure to pull out a win. Expect the likes of Wayne Crabtree and the Morris brothers to be out to end his run of wins.
Class C for 2-litre cars has two very fast and nimble Modsport cars that showed their pace at Silverstone. The revised MG Midget of Chris Southcott is a real challenger to class king Paul Sibley ( Elan ) and on this circuit either could pull off an outright win .
There can`t many more series in the UK with such variety of machinery.
Craig Percy enjoyed his series debut in the ex-Chris Isaac Morris Minor that packs a Chevy V8 engine !
This car epitomises the very best of the whole special saloon genre.
Brands sees the first professional race driver to participate in the series in the form of GT man Daniel Brown. Daniel and his brother Robert are both making their series debuts in a pair of Ford Escorts in class B entered by `Brown + Geeson`, vehicle accessory suppliers / manufacturers since 1963. The boys` father Sean Brown raced in Touring Cars and Daniel ( 24 ) has already established himself as a top GT driver, racing for Rollcentre , AF Corse , Triple8 and Gulf Racing so far. Both add further quality to the series.
