THE CAR :
Ian Hall is in an exclusive club of drivers to have won Championships driving both a Davrian and the car`s successor the Darrian.
Hall raced in Modsports from 1966 to 1982. In a Mark 1 Sprite he was a joint class winner in the 1972 MCD STP series. Then in a Mini-Jem BL 1.4 was a class winner in both the 1975 + 76 BARC series. He was the first to put a BL 1.4 in a Davrian Mk.7a when in 1980 after a disasterous start in the BARC series switched to the BRSCC one to win overall. Later he was a class front runner in the Castle Combe GTs in 1985 + 86 before getting into Sprints and Hillclimbs.
Having aquired a Darrian T98 with a potent Wildcat 5.2 Hall raced in the BARC NW Sports /
Saloons 2001 to 2010. 5 wins in 2004 gave him 2nd but 10 in 2005 brought him the overall title to put him that exclusive Davrian / Darrian Champions Club.
David Clarke and Adrian Evans formed Davrian Cars in 1967 , using parts of their christian names in Clappham, London. Using Imp engines these cars proved extremely succesful in 1970`s Modsports championships. The firm moved to Defyd , Wales in 1976 to continue the goodwork. Unfortunatly in 1983 they went into receivership and the rights were bought by the Corry Carcompany of Northern Ireland. However back in North Wales the old company was slowly revived into the company it is today under the name Darrian and owned by Tim Duffee
THE CAR :
Built in 1979 by Steven Roberts to enter the Donington GT Championships the car was unusual in that it used BL power not the usual Imp power and the enlarged Mini engine placed the car in the competitive 1500cc class. It wasnt a unique car though as Ian Hall also had a similar car for Modsports which initially was the more succesful of the two. At his local Castle Combe track Roberts won the BRSCC-SW Special GT Championship outright in 1983 with a 100% class winning record. A second in class in that years STP Modsports was achieved aswell. Roberts continued in Modsports until selling the car on to Griffiths in October 1979.
Griffiths began a long association with the BARC-NW Sports / Saloons Championship having a first race class win in that first 1990 season. Still with the same engine in the 1500cc class and frequently racing against the likes of Ron Harper ( Spitfire ) and then Phil Wadsley ( Mini Jem ) after being relocated into Class E for non-silhouettes ,winning the class in 1994 by 5 points. After Garry Wilson dominated the class for a while the new millenium saw Griffiths back as class leader and became outright champion in 2002 winning by a single point followed by Class runner-ups in 2003 + 04.
The first appearence of a traditional Davrian in the CSCC Special Saloons since the 2011 revival was overdue when Griffiths took qualifying at Donington in 2014 . Sadly an electrical gremlin sidelined the car after just 4 laps and prevented this long running driver/car combination from a start.
