THE CAR :

Simon began racing in 1985 with a spaceframe Imp but had been impressed with the Lotus Esprit `clones` that he saw racing in the Donington GT series.Top drivers such as Tony Sugden , Geoff Farmer , Phil Barak , Eddie McLurg , Jon Fletcher , Chris Crawford and more all clothed their race car chassis in Esprit replica bodywork. In 1995 Simon acquired his own `Esprit` and began a long association with the BARC North-West Sports / Saloons series. His Esprit ,using a 3.6 Rover V8 ,was quick but not as quick as his Class A rival Tony Sugden`s Skoda Turbo that won so many races during the 90`s.

In 1997 Simon ran with a Wildcat Rover V8 4941cc engine giving 400 BHP. In 2001 that was replaced by a 6032cc version producing 430 BHP. The current engine was installed in 2009 , a 5.5 litre Chevy V8 race engine from a Daytona prototype used in Grand-Am racing producing a huge 575 bhp. In 2011 Simon was invited to the Special Saloon revival and indeed won the inagural race in 2012 , at Silverstone.

All the years of development came good in 2013 with outright victory in the BARC N-W Sports /Saloons. Balancing that series with the Special Saloons ,Simon had 2 runner-up finishes at Brands to Ian Hall`s Darrian but blitzed to a double win at Donington. Simon currently holds the series fastest laps at both Silverstone National and at Donington National.
